Mini Road Trip on the Pacific Coast Highway
For my birthday this year, I had a couple of days to do a road trip in California. Not sure why, but I didn’t want to go too far from home. One of the best things about Cali is that you don’t have to go far to experience something completely different. Half Moon Bay is just 30 miles south of San Francisco. Drive another 30 miles along the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and you’re in Pescadero.
In January you can get great off-season rates at the Costanoa “compound”. I call it that for lack of a better term, as it’s a bit new-agey without much in the way of customer service (not exactly like the feminist bookstore in “Portlandia”, but somewhere on that plane).
Maybe it can’t make up its mind. Is it a high-end resort with spa services and a decent restaurant? A remote retreat with no TVs (except in the restaurant bar) and no wi-fi? A campground? All that and more? Or less? You should decide for yourself because the location is amazing with a number of hiking trails on what is dubbed “coastal prairie.”
